{"id":1091777,"date":"2019-05-07T10:22:44","date_gmt":"2019-05-07T08:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asc-aqua.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=91777&#038;source_id=91777&#038;target_id=1091777"},"modified":"2024-10-16T10:18:47","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T08:18:47","slug":"brazils-first-asc-certified-salmon-goes-on-sale-in-swift-stores","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/asc-aqua.org\/news\/brazils-first-asc-certified-salmon-goes-on-sale-in-swift-stores\/","title":{"rendered":"Brazil&#8217;s First ASC Certified Salmon Goes on Sale in Swift Stores"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"block wysiwyg\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"row\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col-12\">\n\t\t\t\t<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 11pt;line-height: 115%;font-size: 11pt;font-family: Calibri, sans-serif\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">For the first time shoppers in Brazil can buy ASC certified salmon thanks to a new range of products in Swift supermarkets.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">Four ASC labelled salmon products are available to shoppers in Swift\u2019s 125 stores, sourced from Cermaq\u2019s certified farms in Punta Arenas, Chile.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u201cThis is good news for Brazilian shoppers, and a great opportunity to use their purchasing decisions to reward responsible salmon producers,\u201d said Laurent Viguie, ASC Commercial Marketing Manager, Brazil. \u201cSwift and Cermaq have worked hard to give Brazilians the option of ASC certified salmon, and we will continue to work with them to ensure this is the beginning of an upward trend for responsible seafood consumption in Brazil and Latin America.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">\u201cThis important step contributes to the strategy of the brand to expand the assortment of certified fish, which already has other species such as Alaskan Pollock, Tilapia and Cod,\u201d said Paulo Christofani, Swift Produce Manager. \u201cToday, certified items represent 45% of our seafood sales. Our short-term goal is to increase this to 65%, and we are always looking for sustainable options for other items.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">&#8220;We are very happy to be the first farmers to supply Brazil with this ASC certified salmon. Cermaq and our customers have done a fantastic job to be able to reach retail consumers,\u201d said Felipe Puga, Cermaq Sales &amp; Processing Director.<\/span>\u00a0\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">Sustainability and Responsible Farming is one our founding strategical pillars as a global company. In the long run we aim to certify all our farming sites to the ASC Salmon Standard. Cermaq was one of the first ASC certified salmon farmers in Chile and currently we have nine certified sites, mostly in the region of Magallanes (XII Region) in the far south of the country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">Swift sources the four products from two suppliers, Noronha Pescados and Damm, who package salmon from ASC certified Cermaq farms in Chile. Chile is the second largest producer of farmed salmon in the world.
