{"id":1091719,"date":"2019-05-03T11:40:22","date_gmt":"2019-05-03T09:40:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asc-aqua.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=91719&#038;source_id=91719&#038;target_id=1091719"},"modified":"2024-10-16T10:18:47","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T08:18:47","slug":"asc-joins-wal-mart-china-for-launch-of-new-seafood-traceability-strategy","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/asc-aqua.org\/news\/asc-joins-wal-mart-china-for-launch-of-new-seafood-traceability-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"ASC Joins Wal-Mart China for Launch of New Seafood Traceability Strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"block wysiwyg\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"row\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col-12\">\n\t\t\t\t<p>Wal-Mart China has partnered with ASC to launch its fresh meat and seafood traceability strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Songlin Wang, Senior Advisor in ASC China\u2019s commercial team, delivered a presentation about ASC\u2019s standards at the official launch event in Shenzen in April.<\/p>\n<p>Wal-Mart announced that it would launch its traceable own-brand \u2018Marketside\u2019 products first in South China, and they will account for 12.5 % of its total packaged seafood by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very pleased to work collaboratively with other organisations like Wal-Mart China to provide Chinese consumers with responsible, quality and traceable seafood products,\u201d said Songlin Wang. \u201cAs responsible aquaculture becomes increasingly important to Chinese consumers, we will continue to work with producers and retailers to ensure they have plenty of ASC certified products to choose from.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"do-not-expand\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"animate-into-view\" src=\"https:\/\/asc-aqua.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/WalMart-China-Launch-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1964\" height=\"1211\" data-animate-direction-to=\"right\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Wal-Mart China already has products from five ASC standards for consumers to choose from \u2013 salmon, prawns, mussels, tilapia and pangasius.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn recent years Wal-Mart has placed the development of fresh food traceability in a position of strategic importance. We have been actively building our fresh food traceability system based on our strong technological strength, the resources of our suppliers and the robustness of our supply chain,\u201d said Bengti Tan, Senior Vice President and Chief Ethics &amp; Compliance Officer of Wal-Mart China.<\/p>\n<p>This partnership is the latest example of ASC\u2019s growing influence and recognition in China, which is a vital region for aquaculture both in terms of production and consumption. Almost 60,000 tons of responsible seafood are produced in the country every year.
