Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is excited to collaborate again with our partners WWF and the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) to promote the importance of certified seafood during the annual \u2018Think Fish Week\u2019 In the Netherlands and Belgium.<\/figure>\n
<\/figure>\n
The promotion, launched yesterday, will continue through October 1<\/span>st<\/sup> 2017. Think Fish Week is a dedicated campaign to help consumers understand the benefit of choosing certified seafood in protecting our environment and supporting the livelihoods of farmers, fishermen and their communities.\u00a0 The campaign specifically highlights ASC and MSC certified seafood as the best choice to protect our ocean, lakes and rivers due to the rigorous certification process that offers full traceability from fishery or farm to fork.<\/span><\/span><\/figure>\n

The campaign is set for another successful year as nearly every supermarket\u2014 and even some food chains and leading seafood brands\u2014 have joined the celebration across the Netherlands and Belgium, making it easy for consumers to make the right choice this Think Fish Week and beyond. Dutch supermarket Albert Heijn\u00a0 is once again promoting their extensive selection of\u00a0 certified product. In the Netherlands, Aldi has developed a radio commercial to support the campaign and Colruyt produced a brochure to highlight the annual event in Belgium.Support for Think Fish Week has grown over time and even new partners have joined the well-established promotion.\u00a0 Dutch food chain Hema is participating for the first time this year, as is the University of Leuven. The University, together with its suppliers, is inspiring students to think about the origin of the seafood they consume through communication materials in on-site restaurants and via social media.<\/p>\n

The message at the core of Think Fish Week is amplified by simultaneous regional campaigns devoted to the importance of eco-labels, including Omram Duurzaaam. Further recognition of the strength of the ASC certification has come from the Dutch consumer organisation Milieu Centraal. After comparing existing eco-labels, Milieu Centraal recognised ASC\u00a0as one of its 11 \u2018top-ecolabels\u2019, based on criteria for robustness, goals,\u00a0 transparency and credibility. The organisation now supports ASC, and tells the story behind the label, in in their own campaign.<\/p>\n\"\"\n

Thanks to the support and efforts of our partners, ASC is having a real impact. Sales of certified seafood have increased by an impressive 30% in the Netherlands over the first half of this year and, as more people understand the positives of seeking out the label, we hope to see further growth.<\/p>\n
