{"id":1000421,"date":"2015-09-02T19:47:15","date_gmt":"2015-09-02T19:47:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asc-aqua.org\/?post_type=news&#038;p=421&#038;source_id=421&#038;target_id=1000421"},"modified":"2024-10-16T10:18:06","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T08:18:06","slug":"the-worlds-leading-sustainable-seafood-certification-program-is-exploring-new-ways-for-additional-protection-from-seafood-fraud-in-its-supply-chain-over-the-past-two-years-the-msc-has-been-piloting","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/asc-aqua.org\/news\/the-worlds-leading-sustainable-seafood-certification-program-is-exploring-new-ways-for-additional-protection-from-seafood-fraud-in-its-supply-chain-over-the-past-two-years-the-msc-has-been-piloting\/","title":{"rendered":"AEON aims to increase sales of ASC certified seafood in Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"block wysiwyg\">\n\t<div class=\"container\">\n\t\t<div class=\"row\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col-12\">\n\t\t\t\t<p><b>AEON, Japan&#8217;s largest retailer, has announced its plans to increase the volume of Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certified seafood available across its stores.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At a press event in Tokyo, Ms Tsuchiya, Director, Senior Executive Officer, General Food Merchandising Planning Division at Aeon Retail, declared that AEON intends to increase share of MSC and ASC certified seafood sales by ten percent, from the current three percent, by 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">AEON also revealed plans to expand the sale of its own brand, Topvalu Gurinai, ASC labelled Atlantic salmon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Referring to the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Ms Tsuchiya confirmed that the fact that <\/span>ASC certified farmed seafood will be served at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is a clear sign that recognition of certified seafood is increasing worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Rio 2016 Organising Committee has pledged that by the time of the Rio 2016 Olympics all of the seafood coming from aquaculture that enters the Olympic village will be ASC certified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">AEON predicts that ASC in particular will expand on a wide scale globally in the coming years, and \u00a0it sees the Tokyo 2020 Games as an opportunity to introduce more ASC certified seafood in Japan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>First retailer in Japan to offer responsibly farmed seafood<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In 2014, <a href=\"https:\/\/asc-aqua.org\/news\/asc-certified-salmon-now-available-in-japan\/\">AEON became the first retailer to introduce\u00a0ASC certified salmon to the Japanese market<\/a><\/span>.
